Meshaka
My name is Meshaka and I live with my family in an area of the Kibera Slum called Soweto. My family consists of my mother (Millicent) and younger brother (Sheldrick). My mother sells chipati bread and beans in the slum, and she earns very little money from this work. My brother and I often work to help earn enough money to pay the rent. We don’t live a good life at all. I attended a basic primary school in the slum, which had very limited resources, facilities and qualified teachers. Despite these challenges, I achieved good marks in school because I want to have a better future for my family. I am clever, and I am proud of that. My role model is Barack Obama. I enjoy community work and also camping. When I grow up, I would like to be a surgeon, as well as a role model for my younger brother.
