Violet

Year:Graduated Secondary School in 2018
School: Mwanyambo Secondary School, Voi

My name is Violet. I come from a family of 7 people – I have 4 brothers and one sister. My mother looks after us on her own as my father left when I was 10 years old. I grew up in a rural town in Kenya, where I attended my first 5 years of primary school. I was constantly changing schools because my mum could not pay school fees. Eventually, we moved to the Kibera Slum, so my mother could find better employment. My mother works as a security guard, and she works very hard to support us. We live in a small house in the Kibera Slum. Because there are so many children in my family, and my mother earns very little money, I knew I would not be able to attend secondary school without a sponsorship. I’m not sure exactly what I want to be when I grow up, but I want to help people.

Violet is externally sponsored.
