School: Completed high school at Kivaywa Boys High School in 2022

My name is Jonathan and I was born in Migori, Kenya in 2002. I attended a small primary school in the Kibera Slum called St Catherine Children’s Centre. The school has limited resources and the rooms are cramped and bare. I am the fourth born in a family of seven. My mother is a social worker in the slum, but her work is inconsistent and unreliable. I do not live with my father, so my mother (Mercy) is struggling to support all of us on a single income.

I grew up in a small village in Migori, Kenya. I attended a remote primary school there until grade 6, but my mum had to move us to the Kibera Slum for my final two years of primary school due to financial difficulties in the village.

I dream of becoming a doctor when I grow up. I would also like to help orphans to achieve a better future.

“I will work hard in school and follow instructions in order to achieve my dreams” – Jonathan, 2017
