Merryanie
My name is Merryanie and I was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002. I completed my primary school education at Magaso Primary School. I have 8 half-sisters, all to different mothers but we have the same father. Four of my sisters are already married and the other four are still at school, just like me. My father works as a taxi driver and earns a low wage for his work. We live in a single-roomed home in the Kibera Slum and there is very little privacy in our home.
I grew up in a small village with my grandmother. My grandmother raised me after my parents separated. I moved to the Kibera Slum to live with my mother at the age of 11 and I now live with my father because my mother could not support me.
I chose to apply for this sponsorship because none of my older sisters have ever attended secondary school. I would like to be the first child in my family to join secondary school. I also dream of going to university and becoming a doctor.
“In the future, I plan to become the greatest doctor in the whole world. I will use my salary to help those who are in need, like me. I will do anything within my power to make my dreams come true.” – Merryanie, 2017.
