Naumi

School: Bachelor of Arts at Kenyatta University

My name is Naumi and I was born in the Kibera Slum in 2004. I attended Spurgeons Academy and completed my primary school education there in 2017. My father is a night guard and my mother works as a cleaner in a local school. I have 6 siblings and we live together with our parents in a single-roomed, semi-permanent home in the Kibera slum. It is hot and cramped during the day and very cold at night.

My parents earn very little money, and it is barely enough to pay for rent and food for me and my 6 siblings. Unfortunately, paying for secondary school tuition for me is an unachievable goal for my parents.

I dream of becoming an ECD (Early Childhood Development) teacher. I love working with children and I would like to help children grow up with a more positive start in life.

“I want to move my family out of poverty. I will improve their living standards and I will work hard to do so” – Naumi, 2017.
