Phedy

Year:Form 2
School: Ogande Girls High School

Phedy was born in the Kibera Slum in 2010. She lives in a small single-roomed home in the Kibera Slum with her aunt.

Phedy’s parents and 3 siblings had to move back to the country when her mother became sick, leaving her with her aunt as they could no longer support her.

Phedy’s father works as a sugar cane cutter, earning very little for the labour-intensive work. Phedy’s mother is suffering from a chronic illness and is unable to work, so the family must survive on their father’s income. Once her mother’s medical bills are paid and the rent is due, there is no money left to pay for the children’s education.

Phedy knew that she needed to find a sponsorship in order to attend secondary school.

Phedy dreams of becoming a doctor so that she can help people in her community who suffer chronic disease like her mother.
