Ashira

Ashira was born in 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya. She lives with her parents and two younger siblings in small single roomed home, made of corrugated iron and mud. Their home is located in the Lenana Slums of Nairobi. Ashira and her family are constantly facing challenges such as a leaking roof and flooding in the rainy season.

Ashira’s father receives occasional income when he is able to find work as a casual laborer, while her mother stays home to care for her baby sister.

Ashira had a challenging start to her education after being forced to leave her first primary school due to outstanding school fees. Despite this difficult start, Ashira graduated primary school in 2023 with a grade of 317/500.

Ashira hopes to study Law when she finishes high school. She is determined to work hard to achieve her dreams and lift her family out of poverty.
