Eunice

Year:Form 1
School: The Salvation Army Mudavadi Girls’ High School – Madzuu

Eunice was born in 2009 in Siaya, Kenya. She has a large family, consisting of 4 siblings and her parents. Eunice’s mother does not work and her father has no consistent income, working as a casual laborer whenever he can find work.

Eunice and her siblings have grown used to staying at home instead of going to school every time their father is unable to pay their school fees.

Eunice lives in a small, single-roomed home with no plumbing, kitchen or electricity. They cook on the fire and use public washroom facilities to go to the bathroom and shower.

The family often has just one or two meals per day as there simply isn’t enough money to purchase more food or charcoal for cooking.

Eunice walked to primary school bare foot every day, and wore old uniforms that didn’t fit her properly, but she didn’t let this dampen her spirit and determination to find a better life for herself and her family.

Eunice hopes to become a doctor when she is older. She would love to be able to care for others who are unwell or struggling in their lives, in order to make them feel better.
